UNITED WAY OF LONG ISLAND LAUNCHES "UNITED TOGETHER: A RESPONSE FUND FOR COVID-19”

Applications Open Today, April 3, 2020 for Long Islanders coping with health and economic emergency

April 3, 2020 (Deer Park) – United Way of Long Island launched “UNITED TOGETHER: A Response Fund For COVID-19” to help alleviate the disruptions to family life caused by the current health crisis.

On Long Island, 1 in 3 workers lack sufficient savings to withstand a sudden loss in wages. With schools and workplaces shuttered as the pandemic continues to unfold, thousands of employees are experiencing unprecedented financial hardship.

To help low-income Long Islanders who are newly unemployed or furloughed due to the effects of COVID-19, UNITED TOGETHER: A Response Fund For COVID-19 was established. The Fund helps eligible applicants meet their critical basic needs of food and household supplies.

Applications to receive help will be accepted beginning Friday, April 3.

“We are committed to giving as many families as possible some relief in the form of a gift card.  When there is a lack of, or limited income, it can be very difficult to decide what you will have to give up. So we are pleased to be able to help our neighbors when every dollar counts,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island. She added, “We are grateful to all of our generous supporters who make this fund possible.”

Leading corporate funders include Bank of America, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, City National Bank, GEICO, National Grid, Northville Industries, PSEG Long Island, The Countess Moira Charitable Foundation, The New York Jets, TriState Capital Bank and UPS, along with hundreds of generous individual donors.
