United Way of Long Island is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. The type of donor information that we collect and maintain is as follows: Contact information: name, address, telephone number and email address, giving information, information on events attended, publications received and special requests for program information as well as information provided by the donor in the form of comments and suggestions.
United Way of Long Island uses donors’ information to understand their interests in our mission, designate as per their wishes and to update them on the organization’s plans and activities. It is shared with staff, board members, volunteers and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis. The organization also assures donors that their names and addresses will not be shared with any third party unless permission has been granted. For those who do not wish to be included in our annual report or other publications, donors should contact United Way of Long Island to have their names removed.
Staff, board members and volunteers involved in fundraising often are privy to personal information about a donor’s giving history, family, wealth and assets. We respect the confidentiality of our donors, understanding that it is vital to our donors and to United Way of Long Island that we keep this information confidential, as is detailed in the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice and A Donor Bill of Rights.
