Liberty Mutual Volunteers help a Long Beach Family Devastated by Hurricane Sandy

Liberty Mutual Volunteers at Juan House in Long Beach

Joins United Way of Long Island’s Operation Rebuild & Recovery

Deer Park, NY, July 2nd 2013 – On June 12th & 13th United Way of Long Island welcomed employee volunteers from Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Valley Stream and Uniondale offices to Operation Rebuild & Recovery.  Staff members helped repair and restore the home of a Long Beach resident that was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Operation Rebuild and Recovery is a partnership of United Way of Long Island, the Health & Welfare Council of Long Island and the Long Island Volunteer Center under the umbrella of Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (LIVOAD). The purpose of Operation Rebuild & Recovery is to develop volunteer engagements with companies like Liberty Mutual Insurance to lend a helping hand and work with recovery/rebuild teams across Long Island as volunteers.

The Liberty Mutual employees who volunteered at the Long Beach home this week joined their colleagues throughout the world who participated in the company’s annual Serve with Liberty campaign.  Launched in 2012 to celebrate Liberty Mutual’s 100th anniversary, the first Serve with Liberty involved over 26,000 company employees who participated in 1,400 community projects worldwide to the benefit of more than 760 charities in 19 countries.

“Last year’s inaugural Serve with Liberty event was an amazing success and as a team we were able to accomplish more than any one of us as individuals thought possible,” said Liberty Mutual Insurance President and CEO David Long.  “Given the overwhelming response and results, I can’t imagine us not doing it again.  Seeing the impact that we were able to make in the lives of so many, it was an easy decision to make Serve with Liberty an annual event.”
