UNITED TOGETHER:
A Response Fund For COVID-19
THE NEED
On Long Island, 1 in 3 workers lack sufficient savings to withstand a sudden loss in wages. With schools and workplaces shuttering as the pandemic unfolds, low-wage employees are experiencing financial hardship.
THE RESPONSE
United Way of Long Island has established UNITED TOGETHER: A Response Fund For COVID-19 to help alleviate disruptions to family life. We are collaborating with the Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (LIVOAD) and our network of nonprofit organizations in the region to assist families and individuals as they deal with this health and economic crisis.
During the COVID-19 public health emergency individuals can contact 211 Long Island for information and referrals related to support services. Dial 2-1-1, or outside of Nassau and Suffolk Counties 1-888-774-7633 and visit 211longisland.org. 211 Long Island operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED
During this economic downfall, support will be provided to those who are newly unemployed or furloughed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Beginning early April, the Fund will help eligible applicants meet their critical basic needs of food and household supplies.
We will continue to monitor and evaluate nonprofit organizations' capacity to fulfill unmet needs. Grants will support agencies that have deep roots in the community and provide services to families, seniors, veterans and special populations.
Please support UNITED TOGETHER - A Response Fund for COVID-19
Your contribution will help individuals and families cope with the challenges they face due to a loss of income during this uncertain time. It’s critical for United Way of Long Island to be successful in providing the necessary resources to Long Islanders. This is our home and we need to meet this challenge head-on.
