June 18, 2021 (Deer Park) – The Bob Woodruff Foundation has made a generous contribution to United Way of Long Island’s Mission United. This gift will provide nearly 500 local veterans with financial assistance for food.
The need is particularly significant as over 95,000 veterans live in our communities, many who are seniors and especially vulnerable since the COVID-19 outbreak. Approximately 1 in 3 Long Islanders*, including veterans, are struggling to make ends meet or live on fixed incomes. The food assistance from Bob Woodruff Foundation will help veterans maintain good health and provide for themselves and their families.
“We’re all hopeful for a brighter future beyond COVID-19, but right now millions of veterans, their families, and caregivers are still facing challenges that were created or exacerbated by the pandemic,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, Chief Executive Officer of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “Through these grants, the Bob Woodruff Foundation is helping veterans and their families access high-quality care and resources, eliminating barriers to their success, and empowering them to thrive.”
“The Bob Woodruff Foundation has been a longtime supporter of United Way of Long Island and we are pleased to continue our partnership. Their generous gift will help ease the burden for hundreds of veterans, especially as many are trying to recover from an extremely challenging year. Giving back to our service members is still as important as ever,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island.

About the Bob Woodruff Foundation:
The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) was founded in 2006 after reporter Bob Woodruff was wounded by a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq. Since then, BWF has led an enduring call to action for people to stand up for heroes and meet the emerging and long-term needs of today’s veterans, including suicide prevention, mental health, caregiver support, and food insecurity. To date, BWF has invested over $80 million to Find, Fund and Shape™ programs that have empowered impacted veterans, service members, and their family members, across the nation, reinforcing the message that BWF has ‘Got Your Six’.
