United Way of Long Island is Making Green History

Making Green History

Were Making Green History
Celebrating our Heroes & Our Future

On Earth Day, April 22, 2015, United Way of Long Island will make Green History by breaking ground in preparation to build a Green House that will become the home for very special residents - military veterans with special needs who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.

This will be THE VERY FIRST GREEN CONSTRUCTION, DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, ZERO ENERGY READY HOME IN THE COUNTRY THAT WILL BE BUILT BY VETERANS FOR VETERANS AND OPERATE UNDER THE VETSBUILD PROGRAM. This high performance facility will be home to many veterans, and as a DOE Zero Energy Ready Home - the cost to operate the house will be virtually non-existent because it will be built and will operate at maximum efficiency.

United Way of Long Island will also be recognizing UWLI Green Building YouthBuild Program graduate, Gabriel Orengo for being the first on Long Island (1 of ONLY 30 in the country) to earn the Building Performance Institute’s (BPI’s) Home Energy Professional Retrofit Installer certification.

This landmark day also includes a graduation ceremony to recognize veterans who have recently completed United Way of Long Island's VetsBuild Green Building Training Program.

Antonio Cromartie Several dignitaries and VIP's will be on hand including, representing "GANG GREEN", ANTONIO CROMARTIE, NY JETS CORNERBACK. In support of United Way of Long Island, Cromartie will attend the Earth Day events to share some inspiring words with the veteran graduates, and as a proud New Yorker take part in this historical day.
