11 Marathons Completed, 2nd New York City Marathon
As a member of Team Mission United, Kristi is looking forward to increasing mental health awareness by running on behalf of veterans and those impacted by COVID-19. Due to the postponement of this year’s New York City Marathon, she will be participating in November’s virtual run hosted by United Way followed, by competing in her first New York City Marathon set for 2021.
Kristi works at the Association for Mental Health and Wellness, United Way’s longtime Mission United veterans and community partner. Through her job, Kristi has seen the hardships of these trying times directly impact her clients, including spikes in anxiety, isolation, and depression.
She has also witnessed many veterans return from duty without receiving their proper recognition, making her Team Mission United efforts increasingly important. “Veterans sacrificed themselves for us,” says Kristi. “It is our duty to give back. We need to revere them for the heroes they are.”
This year’s virtual run will be a new challenge for Kristi, but being the triathlete she is, she will continue to run to prove to herself what she is capable of. “I’m curious to find out what more I can do...running is a part of my life. It’s addictive.”
Kristi's commitment to improving the lives of others is the motivation for her to continue training and fundraising. Her campaign will directly support the Association for Mental Health and Wellness.
“We need to be doing everything we can to take care of one another.”
“There is great benefit to moving your body every day, both physically and mentally.”
