Dreams For Youth Scholarship Real Life Stories: Brittney King,

Tayler Bradford

Brittney King, Uniondale

“I want to serve as a role model to young women, by striving to do my best and reaching my goals.”

The United Way of Long Island offers a Dreams for Youth scholarship program to assist youth with costs associated with educational goals, activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit, or community service. One of this year’s recipients was Brittney Young, a senior at Roosevelt High School – who received a $1,000 grant from the United Way.

In her junior year, Brittney began Roosevelt High School, leaving behind the security of her old school in Uniondale. Although shy and uncomfortable in a new environment, she overcame this new challenge and became a leader among her peers by becoming a key member of the Girls Resolution and Girls Empowerment groups, which teach young women to deal with challenges by supporting each other through communication.
