January 19, 2022 (Deer Park): United Way of Long Island has received a $10,000 grant from Sterling National Bank, in support of YouthBuild. A signature program at United Way, YouthBuild primarily serves young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who lack a high school diploma and financial resources. They are champions of today’s opportunity youth who aspire to improve their lives and communities by building the skills and resources to reach their full potential. These young people work together to reclaim their education, gain job skills, and become leaders in their communities.
Thanks to the support of organizations like Sterling National Bank, YouthBuild participants work toward their TASC High School Equivalency Diploma, all while learning a desired vocational skill in a variety of industries such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), medical billing and coding, building trades and weatherization, customer service, trades in the offshore wind, solar and renewables industry, manufacturing and more. Students also have access to workshops that will equip them with essential skills for job interviews, as well as company tours and job fairs. Prior to graduation, potential internship opportunities are also available to with some of United Way’s corporate supporters. Post-graduation, YouthBuild continues its relationship with the students by providing career counseling that can lead to placement in a college education program or employment.
