Communications Workers of America Local 1104Communication Workers of America Local 1104 has given out more than 2.5 million dollars in aid to families in the New York and New Jersey regions. At the helm of the Communication Workers of America Local 1104 is George Bloom. In his role as president for the past 9 years, and member for 43 years, George has been instrumental in guiding the efforts of the CWA Local 1104 as a long standing partner of the United Way of Long Island.

With over 10,000 members in New York State and Long Island, the CWA Local 1104 represents the highest trained, professional and hardest working telecommunications technicians in the region. After Hurricane Sandy, union workers responded with diligence and worked tirelessly through unfriendly conditions to ensure that Long Islanders were plugged into the rest of the world and the communities we live in. Following Hurricane Katrina, the CWA Local 1104 energized Long Islanders to donate food, clothing and contributions, and then drove a 50-foot truck to New Orleans where they orchestrated the distribution of goods to hurricane survivors. Twice a year the CWA Local 1104 hosts a blood drive, together with Verizon, to give the gift of life to those in need. In addition to the ongoing support they provide to children with special needs at the Hagedorn Little Village School, the CWA Local 1104 also sponsors the Massapequa Canoe Race which raises more than $50,000 annually, and founded the Blessing of the Hard Hats open to all unions of all faiths on the Feast of Saint Joseph.
