In the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the United Way of Long Island joined forces with the Long Island Voluntary Organization Active in Disasters (VOAD) to help thousands of people in need. Operation Recovery & Rebuild was quickly created to organize volunteers and organizations willing to extend a helping hand. Teams of people worked with disaster relief leaders to mobilize recovery efforts and to renew Long Island's spirit. Today, two years later, United Way of Long Island continues to assemble resources to provide help in order for families to recover.

"We wish to thank all of those who continue to join together in response to one of the most devastating natural disasters our region has ever seen. Our efforts would not have been possible without the unprecedented generosity of our contributors, volunteers, partner agencies, organizations, and the support of United Way of Long Island's Board of Directors. Our work continues until all of our neighbors on Long Island are back in their homes."
