United Way of Long Island Continues its Partnership With Hope For The Warriors In Support of Local Veterans

Organization Awards $47,500 to Support Local Veterans and Their Families Over The Past Five Years

United Way of Long Island recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the Hope For The Warriors® Critical Care Coordination Program. Hope For The Warriors® is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.

For the past five years, Hope For The Warriors® has partnered with United Way of Long Island’s Military Family Assistance Initiative/VetsBuild. In that time, the organization has received a total of $47,500 for its Critical Care Coordination Program to help post-9/11 military personnel and their families. The program has assisted military families who were facing financial emergencies in the areas of housing, transportation, utilities, holiday needs, and more.

Hope For The Warriors® works daily with wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen to meet immediate financial needs. Critical Care Coordination involves integrated case management on various levels engaging individual wounded service members, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and/or the warrior unit in which they are associated, medical professionals (if applicable), the Department of Defense and other nonprofit organizations.

Travel expenses, lengthy hospital stays, loss of income, and unexpected expenses create financial burdens for families during a vulnerable and uncertain time in their life. Originally designed to meet short-term needs in the days following an injury, the program has expanded to assist wounded heroes and their families as they navigate through long-term recovery.

“United Way of Long Island recognizes the need to mobilize an entire community to effect truly lasting change,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island. “Living in a region where 1 in 5 veterans lives in poverty, the work of agencies like Hope For The Warriors®, which provides a safety net for veterans and their families is vital to our local heroes, and the community as a whole.”

“We are humbled by United Way Long Island’s enthusiasm to support local military families in the New York area,” said Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President. “United Way Long Island has shown us their dedication to the needs of our military year after year and we thank them for their generosity.”
