Deer Park, NY (September 14, 2015) -- In its 3rd year, the Annual Airborne 5K Run and Walk will take place on Saturday, September 26th at 9:00am at Gillette Park in Sayville, NY. It is expected that 500 runners will participate in this year’s event, which will support United Way of Long Island’s VetsBuild program.
Event creators, Airborne Tri Team was founded by active duty military and disabled veterans with the mission of creating an atmosphere of self-esteem through the development of activities that promote physical, social and emotional well being. United Way of Long Island’s VetsBuild program was initiated to help post 9/11 veterans get the career training skills, as well as a support network to secure employment in green industry construction and related fields.
Staff Sergeant Ronald Hurtado is the founding member and executive director of the Airborne Tri-Team. He feels that VetsBuild fits in perfectly with the mission of his organization, saying, “Emotional well-being encompasses having a good job and being financially stable. VetsBuild, at no cost to veterans, provides the skills and networking opportunities needed to succeed in the green construction trades. We have seen the success of the program and want to show our support by getting the word out to a large number of runners through our 5K.”
Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island speaks highly of the Airborne Tri Team. Regnante said, “There is great synergy in our partnership, as it combines valuable life enhancement opportunities for veterans both in fitness and financially.” She added, “It is our goal to help the men and women who have served our country transition from military back into civilian life with greater ease, and to offer opportunities to allow for success.”
A $25 minimum donation is required to run or walk and included a race T-shirt. To register on line visit
