Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. headquartered in Bay Shore, NY called upon their many employees to participate in a Walk-a-thon on October 13th to raise money for the United Way of Long Island and Island Harvest.  This year's walk-a-thon raised $10,000 which will benefit the United Way and the Island Harvest Back-Pack Program. Project Will Provide Critical Pathway to Clean Energy Career Opportunities, Local Learning Lab for Long Island Students The Long Island Regional Economic Development Council (LIREDC) today announced the United Way of Long Island (UWLI) is moving forward with its building-science lab house project on the strength of a $250,000 award through the second round of Governor Andrew M. Volunteers from Rosco Vision Systems joined United Way of Long Island staff to deliver school supplies for under-served children in honor of the September 11th National Day of Service & Remembrance. As part of United Way of Long Island’s Stuff-A-Bus program, volunteers helped load, over 50,000 assorted pieces of school supplies onto a school bus. On September 4th, 2013 United Way of Long Island and the JP Morgan Chase Foundation worked together to deliver 350 backpacks filled with school supplies to underserved children of the Freeport and Westbury school districts. On January 29, NBC News and United Way of New York City launched a “Digital Donation Drive” to benefit those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Modeled like a wedding registry, and in partnership with Amazon.com, select United Ways including United way of Long Island, registered for goods that were requested by community partners. The program highlighted how devastated communities continue to need support.
