YouthBuild Students One Step Closer To Success
Salaaman Keitt, 19, Lavasia Collier 24, of Wyandanch, Angela Austin, 21, of North Babylon and Jorge Diaz, 21, of Brentwood, students enrolled in United Way’s YouthBuild Long Island program, are one step closer to leading more productive lives. They recently took and passed the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) exam.
All students, whom dropped out of High School several years ago, enrolled in YouthBuild Long Island with the goal of obtaining their GED, while learning hands-on job skills that would lead to a more promising future. They each worked closely with JoAnn Henn, a certified teacher and GED instructor from YouthBuild partner, Education and Assistance Corp. (EAC), on coursework that included English, math, science, social studies, technology and health.
“When you have the ability to do what you need to and know there are steps to get there, keep striving for success because you will get positive results like I have,” said Collier.
“The GED was something I feared but had to overcome and succeed,” said Keitt.
