YouthBuild Student Interns with Nassau DA

United Way’s YouthBuild Long Island student and Uniondale resident, Tosue Gibson, 20, was recently selected for an internship at the office of Nassau County District Attorney, Kathleen Rice. Gibson, was one of more than 50 undergraduate applicants to Nassau County’s summer intern program.

At YouthBuild, low-income young men and women, ages 18 to 24, work towards their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) while learning hands-on job skills by building affordable green housing for low- to moderate-income residents and participating in leadership development activities in their communities. A strong focus is placed on green collar job opportunities in energy efficiency, renewables, weatherization, energy star construction, and home performance.

“I believe in what YouthBuild does for our young people and the opportunities it provides to them,” said Rice. “I enthusiastically support the program and have been fortunate to experience YouthBuild first hand by employing one of its students, Tosue Gibson, as an intern in my office. Work opportunities like this benefit everyone. We all have a stake in the future and I am happy to help future leaders like Tosue to excel and succeed.”

“YouthBuild Long Island helped to set me on a better path in life,” said Gibson. “I am now enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at Nassau County Community College and honored to be working side-by-side with District Attorney Rice. I feel confident that a positive and successful future is the only future for me.”
