School Supplies Donated to Brentwood Elem. Students
United Way of Long Island delivered much-needed school supplies to children at Laurel Park and Loretta Park Elementary Schools in Brentwood.
The supplies were donated as part of a Stuff-A-Bus campaign that United Way of Long Island recently conducted in collaboration with several of its corporate and community partners in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
The bus was donated by Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. in Bay Shore. Supplies were donated to more than 150 Brentwood school children in grades 1 through 5 who were in desperate need of essential school supplies needed to properly begin the new school year. Items donated included backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks, pocket folders, pens, pencils, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks and rulers. Brentwood is an underserved school district - over 50% of students are from families receiving public assistance, and a significant number of students are from homeless families.
"This was like Christmas to us," said Dr. Marian Nasta, Principal of Loretta Park Elementary School. "We so appreciate the generosity of people who are thinking about those kids that are less fortunate."
"Laurel Park is very grateful for the outreach and generosity of United Way and the Long Island community for the benefit of our students," said Eric Snell, Principal of Laurel Park Elementary School.
"United Way of Long Island was pleased to be able to respond to the needs of the Brentwood School District," said Theresa Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island. "Every child deserves a positive head start on the school year."
Local companies and individuals that donated supplies included Deloitte (Jericho), RWDSU Local 338 (Mineola), IBEW Local 1049 (Hauppauge), CSEA (Commack), Epoch 5 Public Relations (Huntington), Frito Lay (Wyandanch), Robert Andrew Wild & Garfunkel Wild & Travis (Great Neck), Mayur Dalal & Legacy Planning Group, LLC (Lake Success), Merchants Insurance Group (Hauppauge), National Grid (Hicksville), Newsday (Melville), Petro (Hicksville, Plainview, Yaphank), Rivkin Radler LLP (Uniondale), Sleepy's (Bethpage), Stephen Schector (Franklin Square), Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc.
