Project Warmth Opens for Winter Season

UNITED WAY OF LONG ISLAND OFFERS EMERGENCY HEATING ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES IN CRISIS

On December 5, United Way of Long Island opened its Project Warmth Emergency Fuel Fund for the upcoming winter season.

Project Warmth partners with local oil companies and community-based agencies that assist with utility payments to help families get back on the path to financial stability. Project Warmth provides qualifying families with heating emergencies (e.g., a near empty fuel tank or a final termination notice from their heating company) with a one-time grant to pay for fuel services to keep their homes habitable. Grants cover all types of fuel used for home heating, and United Way of Long Island negotiates delivery of fuel and direct payment with participating energy providers. Eligible applicants include those who have exhausted their Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) grants for the year or those ineligible for federal HEAP.

Consider giving the gift of warmth.
Over the past two winters, United Way of Long Island’s Project Warmth Emergency Fuel Fund received more requests for assistance than any time in its history. This year, United Way is bracing for a more unprecedented demand for emergency fuel fund assistance.

United Way is asking all Long Islanders to take part in an extraordinary effort to raise $1 million to strengthen Project Warmth’s ability to stay open all winter and help thousands of Long Islanders and their families. Contributions can be made through the yellow envelope in your energy bill, online, or by texting WARMTH to 50555. ($10 donation applies).
