United Way of Long Island’s YouthBuild program is recruiting young adults, ages 18 to 24, that are looking to obtain their GED, learn construction and weatherization skills through state-of-the-art green building techniques and focus on starting a career. Students are also offered guidance for additional career opportunities in nursing and child care.
YouthBuild Long Island is a free youth and community-development program, as well an alternative school, that simultaneously addresses core issues facing low-income communities: housing, education, employment, crime prevention, and leadership development. At YouthBuild, low-income young men and women, ages 18 to 24, work towards their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) while learning hands-on job skills by building affordable Green housing for low- to moderate-income people and participating in leadership development activities in their communities.
A strong focus is placed on Green collar job opportunities in Energy Efficiency, Renewables, Weatherization, Energy Star construction, and Home Performance. Students have hands on training with the latest equipment and technology at our brand new E3 Career Training Center in Deer Park.
