UNITED WAY OF LONG ISLAND CONDUCTS ‘SANTA MARCH’ TO THANK EMPLOYEES AT GEICO HEADSQUARTERS
Check out all the photos here! - GEICO’s workplace fundraising campaign has raised an unprecedented $1,058,000 to benefit United Way of Long Island and other local nonprofit agencies that support local communities. Today, in recognition of this milestone, United Way of Long Island staff – all wearing full Santa Claus suits – held large picket and display signs in honor of GEICO employees on Woodbury Road in front of GEICO’s headquarters. The United Way Santas also marched the hallways of GEICO’s headquarters in Woodbury to thank the associates for their generosity.
During a time when the economy has caused many organizations to reduce their philanthropic support of nonprofits, GEICO associates have made the commitment to increase their support of Long Islanders in need. Under the leadership of Seth Ingall, Regional Vice President of GEICO and United Way of Long Island Board Member, GEICO contributions have increased by 173 percent over the last three years. GEICO, a corporate partner of United Way of Long Island for more than 30 years, challenges their associates to support the organizations that comprise Long Island’s ‘safety net.’ To encourage participation, the GEICO Foundation additionally provides a 100 percent match of all contributions.
“This year’s GEICO campaign truly demonstrates the exemplary dedication that its employees have to changing lives across Long Island,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island. “The generosity of giving more than $1,000,000 will extend to thousands of families in need and help to support the vital safety net of health and human services that an increasing number of Long Islanders are accessing.”
“The Region 2 GEICO associates are very enthusiastic about giving to those in need on Long Island. That’s why United Way of Long Island is GEICO's charity of choice,” stated GEICO’s United Way Employee Campaign Co-Chairs. “GEICO associates have pledged $528,000, a record-setting amount for our region, which truly shows the generosity of our employees, especially in a time where the economy is getting worse every day. Stepping up to the plate and helping those in need is a priority here in our building and we are all proud to be a part of this effort.”
Additionally, as part of the campaign effort, GEICO employees raised more than $30,000 in support of Operation LIVE UNITED, a United Way event that supports its Military Family Assistance Project. Campaign volunteers also offered exciting incentives to give including free sporting event tickets, casual days, book sales, plant sales and more.
Nominated by United Way of Long Island, GEICO was also recently recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Long Island (AFPLI) for their outstanding support of local communities and its commitment to advancing the common good on Long Island.
