United Way of Long Island’s Military Family Assistance Initiative supports programs that serve Long Island's post 9/11 military, reservist and National Guard personnel and their families.
United Way, together with its Military Family Assistance Initiative partners, advances the common good by investing in and operating programs that address the critical needs of Long Island’s active military families. Funded programs are in the critical need areas of:
- Case management/service coordination to assist military personnel and military families secure eligible services
- Emergency financial assistance for military personnel and their families
- Employment and job training for returning military personnel

Our partners include Clubhouse of Suffolk/SC United Veterans, Family Service League, Hope for the Warriors, Mental Health Association of Nassau County, and United Veterans Beacon House.
VetsHelpLI is a key component of United Way of Long Island’s Military & Veterans Initiative. The site is an online source where active military personnel and veterans will find information on a wide array of specialized services including benefits, case management, employment, counseling, healthcare, education and much more. Powered by United Way’s 2-1-1 Long Island database, VetsHelpLI connects Long island’s Military Service members, Reservists, National Guard and all Veterans with local organizations that offer veteran-oriented programs and services. These resources include programs offered by Long Island non-profits, government offices, and national resources all in one easy to use portal.
