What is Leadership Giving?
United Way of Long Island's leadership giving program promotes and recognizes individual gifts of $1,000 or more annually. Last year, several hundred Long Islanders took community investing to the next level to qualify as a Leadership Giver. These are people who understand the needs of those less fortunate and set an outstanding example to others in our community.

United Way of Long Island invites you to become a Leadership Giver. Your partnership is important to us and the lives of others on Long Island. With your help, we can build a better community by investing in what matters most-changing lives where you live.

Heritage Society-Planned Giving
Become a member of United Way of Long Island's Heritage Society by making a gift to United Way through your will or estate plan. In addition to having your estate care for your family, your will should reflect your charitable philosophy and provide support for those organizations that perform work important to you and your family.

A gift through your estate provides you with the following benefits:

  • The opportunity to make a major gift while preserving your assets during your lifetime.
  • A possible reduction in federal estate taxes.
  • The opportunity to secure the future of Long Island community through perpetual support of United Way of Long Island's mission.

While most people contribute to United Way through workplace campaigns, many more are taking advantage of planned giving and other options. Regardless of how you choose to give, contributions of $1,000, $10,000 or more qualify you for membership in United Way of Long Island giving societies list above that offer valuable benefits and make your contribution go further.
