Weatherization Assistance Program
United Way of Long Island recently received a $3 million grant from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR). These weatherization funds will target special needs and government owned affordable housing projects in Nassau and Suffolk County, New York.
Weatherization services reduce average annual energy costs by $218 per household, and returns $1.39 in energy-related benefits for every $1 invested in the program. Therefore, increasing the income for our clients, by reducing their energy costs.
United Way is slated to weatherize 420 dwelling uts of housing in the next 18 months between January 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. Work to be completed by United Way’s Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified Energy Auditors, and in collaboration with the UWLI YouthBuild Green Collar trainees, participants in UWLI’s Green Job Corp Training program and skilled BPI accredited Long Island based weatherization contractors.
Scope of Work to include:
- A Professional BPI Certified Energy Audit
- A Comprehensive work scope
- Work completed by professional BPI accredited Long Island based weatherization contractors
- UWLI will complete follow-up visits to evaluate the customers satisfaction, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the completed energy efficient measures.
