Green Academy

United Way’s Green Academy
To access high growth, high demand opportunities in the green, renewables, energy efficiency, and weatherization industries, high tech, targeted training is critical. This rapidly growing sector needs skilled “green collar” workers to work as weatherization installers, energy auditors, high efficiency heating and cooling equipment technicians, green home builders, and renewable energy installers.

United Way of Long Island’s Green Academy provides comprehensive 6-week training to prepare for these exciting careers and pursue accreditation in BPI (Building Performance Institute), USGBC Green Associate, and necessary Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) training, while following the nationally accepted U.S. Dept of Energy’s Weatherization curricula and lesson plans.

Eligible participants need to be 18-24 years old, with GED-level skills. Curriculum is heavily focused on green stewardship, with an introduction to building science and weatherization and emphasis on diagnostics and standard construction. Coursework includes introduction to renewables, energy efficiency and graduate resources.
