The Initiative

  • The DREAMS for Youth Scholarship Program makes awards in three areas: academic, enrichment and community service. The academic and enrichment awards are made to Long Island youth between seventh to 12th grade who demonstrate financial need. Community service awards are made to youth serving agencies and schools mentoring youth in a community service project.
  • Since the program’s inception in 2002, United Way of Long Island has awarded a total of 99 scholarships totaling $277,654 through this program.
  • The DREAMS for Youth Scholarship Program was established by United Way’s Youth Advisory Board, led by teens from Long Island schools, along with the late Ben Pace.
  • United Way’s Youth Advisory Board works with United Way of Long Island to review all applications and select scholarship recipients twice a year.

The Scholarships
