United Way of Long Island Makes Green History

On Earth Day, United Way of Long Island will make history with the ground breaking of the first Department of Energy (DOE) Zero Energy Ready group home for Veterans with special needs to be built by Veterans who are participants of United Way’s Green Building Program, VetsBuild. This will be a high performance home which is so energy efficient, that a renewable energy system can offset all or most of its annual energy consumption. Additionally, the event will recognize Long Island’s first Energy Retrofit Installer, Gabriel Orengo who is also a graduate of United Way’s Green Building Program. Orengo is currently the only person on Long Island to have earned the certification from Building Professional Institute Inc. (BPI). He joins only 30 other BPI certified Energy Retrofit Installers in the country.
