We know that what happens in a child’s early years matters – for success in life and for school readiness. Yet many parents and caregivers don’t know exactly what actions to take to prepare young children for school or feel as though they don’t have time to do what’s needed.
That’s why United Way Success By 6, the Ad Council and Civitas recently launched the national BornLearning campaign, which focuses on giving parents, caregivers and communities the knowledge and tools needed to encourage quality early learning opportunities for young children.
The BornLearning resources include specific activities and action steps that are fun and easy-to-do during daily routines.
Kids Basics Playbook
As part of the campaign, United Way of Long Island produced the Kids Basics playbook through the support of Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. The playbook offers information on well visits, connections with your child, child care, sleep, play, discipline, feeding, literacy and more. To obtain a playbook, available in English or Spanish, contact 631.940.3706 or kdonnelly@unitedwayli.org.
BornLearning Web site
The BornLearning Web site provides tips and tricks to families on caring for young children, maximizing play and encouraging early learning. It also includes downloadable documents on sleep habits, nutrition, fun play with songs and games and much more.
