HIV/AIDS Grants Management Initiatives

Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act, Part B
The Ryan White Part B of the HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act goes directly to States to funds medical and support services. New York State in addition to funding services for people living with HIV/AIDS, they also fund HIV consortia throughout the state.

The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute contracts with United Way of Long Island to fund our local Long Island HIV consortium called the Nassau-Suffolk HIV Care Network.

United Way of Long Island staffs the HIV Care Network. This broad coalition of over 350 members includes representatives of all types of service providers, HIV-positive individuals, and other interested parties. The HIV Care Network has quarterly informational meetings and distributes information about HIV/AIDS services in the region via electronic mail on a monthly basis.

There are five Network committees that meet: a Steering Committee, Case Management Committee, Policy Advisory Committee (joint committee with Part A group), Comprehensive Service Plan Development Committee (joint committee with Part A group), Consumer Advocacy Group (joint committee with Part A group), and a Housing Network. In addition, the Nominations and Bylaws committees meet on an as-needed basis.

The Nassau-Suffolk Ryan White Part B HIV Care Network is a local association of health care providers, community-based organizations, community leaders and persons both infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The mission of the HIV Care Network is to promote a coordinated community response that results in improved access to care and supportive services for those infected with HIV and AIDS.

The Nassau-Suffolk Ryan White Part B HIV Care Network undertakes this mission by:

1) Promoting a full complement of HIV/AIDS care and services;
2) Identifying populations and sub-populations of individuals and families with HIV disease;
3) Assessing service needs to identify barriers to care and gaps in the service delivery system; and
4) Identifying emerging issues, especially those with potential impact on the HIV/AIDS service system and the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.
