Vice President, Major Gifts and Gift Planning
Primary Function
The Vice President, Major Gifts and Gift Planning provides comprehensive management of all major gifts and gift planning activities and services; works to promote and increase the leadership donor base, including Tocqueville Society; asks for major gifts and planned gifts from existing and prospective donors, works to identify and cultivate relationships with high-end donors and leadership givers in the community and workplace. The Vice President recruits and trains volunteer community leadership; coordinates leadership fundraising reporting with the Finance Department staff, manages all major gifts and planned gift volunteer administration and services, and provides mentorship to all staff teams to encourage the cultivation of additional major gift opportunities. The Vice President works with community directors and workplace account managers to drive leadership giving in both arenas. The Vice President, Major Gifts and Gift Planning supervises support staff. This position will report to the CEO.
Core Responsibilities
• Provides leadership in development of long-range and short-range goals, strategic fund raising plans, budgets, techniques and programs.
• Develops case for support for major gifts and gift planning.
• Identify, cultivate and ask for major gifts and planned gifts from existing and prospective donors.
• Supervise all leadership and major gift donor prospecting activity.
• Provide management of all solicitation and record-keeping activity for leadership and major gift contributions.
• Conduct research on prospective leadership donors.
• Recruit, train and manage community leadership volunteers.
• Recruit donor volunteers to participate in the recruitment of other donors and in “making the ask” for donations from their peers.
• Provide donor service to all prospective and active leadership givers.
• Interact with community directors and workplace giving staff for strategic outcomes.
• Direct and manage the writing of grant proposals and direct mail solicitations.
• Provide customer service and follow-up support.
• Performs related work as required.
• Develop relationships with resource development staff to cultivate major gift and gift planning prospects.
• Manage high level cultivation event to promote additional major gift and gift planning prospects.
• Manage recognition rosters and major gift and gift planning brochures.
Position Requirements
• Education – Bachelor’s degree
• Experience – Minimum 10 years of fund raising experience
Related Skills
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Ability to summarize information in a clear, understandable fashion.
• Ability to make presentations in a professional and effective manner.
• Ability to successfully organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and donor-prospect tools.
• Ability to develop strategies that guide the completion of assigned responsibilities in alignment with overall organizational goals.
