John Corrado, United Way of Long Island’s Board Chair and President of Suffolk Transportation Services /Suffolk Bus Company announced that he will match the proceeds of the recent sponsored Walk-A-Thon, presenting a $10,000 donation to the United Way of Long Island’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. The employees of STS/SBC along with friends and family joined together for the first annual United Way of Long Island Walk-A-Thon. The employees of Suffolk Transportation Services/Suffolk Bus Company along with friends and family all joined together for the first annual United Way of Long Island Walk-A-Thon. The event was held this past Fall on October 21st at the Holtsville Ecology Center. The United Way of Long Island would like to take this opportunity to thank the IBEW of Philadelphia.   Local 98 is working with the Long Island United Way to make sure meals find their way to communities still in need of assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. This morning, the IBEW brought 300 turkeys and hams with all the trimmings AND 150 pies to needy families in Long Beach, an area devastated by Hurricane Sandy… The effort was coordinated by IBEW 1049 in Hauppauge.   We want to offer our warmest Holiday thanks to the IBEW for such a  generous gift and also show our appreciation...

The United Way of Long Island is pleased to recognize the support and generosity of Port Washington based Apple and Eve.  For more than 35 years, Port Washington based Apple & Eve has been committed to producing a variety of wholesome, pure juices that taste great and are great for you. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Bethpage Federal Credit Union is working closely with the United Way of Long Island and the American Red Cross Long lsland to Support victims of Hurricane Sandy. Bethpage has set up the Bethpage Disaster Relief Fund with the United Way of Long lsland to help support Long Island communities in need. Bethpage will match every donation up to a total of $50,000. To benefit the victims of Superstorm Sandy, GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation is contributing $135,000 to the United Way, American Red Cross, Salvation Army and GEICO associates also contributed an additional $10,000, totaling up to $135,000 to these hurricane relief organizations.
