Members of the Brookhaven Lab community raised a total of $202,228.82 during its 2012 campaign for the United Way of Long Island. This far exceeded the Lab's goal of $150,000 and is the largest amount raised at the Lab to date for this annual effort. It's also $8,595.84 more than the year before and helps add up to more than $1 million in the past six years, making the Laboratory one of the largest contributors to the United Way on Long Island."Brookhaven Lab and the United Way make a great team...

The United Way of Long Island, Youthbuild, VetsBuild and students on Spring Break from an MTV Alternative Sprint Break initiative were all at a Long Beach home helping a family in need with a terrific rebuilding project. Students Who Never Completed High School Receive Introduction to the Workforce. Deer Park, NY, Wednesday, Feb. 13th- Every year, 25-30 of Long Island’s youth graduate from the United Way of Long Island Youthbuild program and enter into employment and additional educational opportunities. Gov. Cuomo Issues Proclamation Declaring February 11th 2-1-1 Day.  Governor Cuomo announced yesterday, by special proclamation, that February 11th is officially 2-1-1 Day, a day devoted to advocating the expansion of 2-1-1 to a state-wide initiative and to make 2-1-1 available 24-7. 2-1-1 is a free project of United Way, that provides a non-emergency information service connecting Long Island residents to health and human services on a daily basis or during a disaster. 2-1-1 Long Island also offers a call center that is a free and a confidential helpline that easily links people to the...

School Children Fund Raise to Help Victims of Hurricane Sandy Principal Matthew Wells, School Social Worker Gina Trepiccione and all the teachers and students from Cayuga Elementary School have created their own fundraising campaign, raising over $900.00 for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. For the past two years, students of the Westbury Community School as part of their annual community service project, make sandwiches for donation to the Mary Brennan Inn, a food pantry located in Hempstead, New York. The Mary Brennan Inn is a member of the Interfaith Nutrition Network, a network of over 19 soup kitchens serving hungry and homeless Long Islanders. Last year, the students made 564 sandwiches and this year, their goal was to double their 2012 total. Enterprise Partners Through United Way of Long Island to Perform Day of Service on Martin Luther King Day Every year Enterprise Rent A Car conducts an annual giving campaign that donates well over $50,000 to United Way of Long Island. Besides their monetary generosity, Enterprise also volunteers on MLK National Day of Service. This year, a team of Enterprise volunteers went to the LIVOAD Volunteer Recovery Center to lend a hand. Commerce Plaza is a unique, hands-on educational program located in Levittown. The program introduces children to the business community through a simulated work environment. Children are exposed to the world of business and basic economic principles including the Not-For-Profit World.
