211 LogoIf you or a loved one needs immediate assistance to local needed services, United Way of Long Island and its community partners can help.

Dial 2-1-1 (or toll free at 1-888-774-7633) to reach the 2-1-1 Call Center to speak directly with a live information specialist who can help assess your needs and refer you to the most appropriate community resources. The 2-1-1 Call Center operates seven days a week from 1:00 to 5:00pm.

You may also visit www.211LongIsland.org to search for local services and resources. 211LongIsland.org provides information on nearly 10,000 community resources for help and assistance in myriad areas – from basic daily needs such as food, heat and shelter to job training, financial services, counseling, health care and child and/or elder care.

Education

  • The Community Schools Project combines teaching and learning with the delivery of an array of social, health, child and youth development services, while emphasizing community and parental involvement. The project currently serves middle school students from the Westbury School District.
  • DREAMS for Youth Scholarship Program, provides scholarships to young people, grades 7 through 12, in academics, enrichment and community service.

Income

  • YouthBuild Long Island, provides unemployed young adults, ages 18 to 24, with the opportunity to earn their GEDs, learn construction skills and serve their communities by building energy efficient, affordable housing.
  • Project Warmth, Long Island’s Emergency Fuel Fund, provides one-time grants to oil and utility companies on behalf of residents facing heating emergencies.
  • Emergency Food and Shelter Program, provides assistance for food, utilities and shelter to individuals and families in emergency situations who meet the federal eligibility guidelines.

Health

  • FamilyWize Prescription Discount Program, provides prescription drug discount cards to Long Islanders without health insurance or who are in need of medications not covered by their insurance plans.
  • HIV/AIDS Services, are coordinated by United Way, the lead agency that administers federal funds to provide resources for people living with HIV/AIDS.
